P.E.I. to increase minimum wage twice in 2016

Going from $10.50 to $11

Prince Edward Island will raise the province's minimum wage — currently $10.50 per hour — by 50 cents to $11 per hour by the end of 2016, making it the highest rate in the Atlantic region.

The wage will be increased incrementally by 25 cents, with first boost taking place on June 1, followed by another on Oct. 1, 2016.

Almost 10 per cent (9.3 per cent) of Island workers are paid minimum wage, according to the government.

The minimum wage in New Brunswick is $10.30 per hour, in Nova Scotia the ratee is $10.10 per hour for inexperienced workers and $10.60 per hour for experienced workers, and in Newfoundland and Labrador the minimum wage is $10.50 per hour.
